When looking to buy a digital camera, you really need to choose a camera that "best fits" you. What are your needs? What do you look for?
The first aspect to consider would be the megapixels of the camera. Depending upon whether you are emailing photos or printing them, you will need to look for a decent resolution. Printing photos requires a higher resolution so that your pictures may be resized without losing the quality of your pictures. You may want to buy a little more than you estimate to be on the safe side.
Second, consider a lens. As with the old cameras, the pictures may be enlarged during the photofinishing stage, this cannot be done with digital cameras. Interpolation is the process used to enlarge digital photos and if your lens is not of an appropriate size you may end up looking at a bunch of pixels or a fuzzy picture. Optical zoom and digital zoom are not the same so be sure to read the literature about the measurement before purchasing.
Another aspect to consider would be your choice of digital film. The higher the resolution of your camera, the more film [MB] you will need. Also, consider how many pictures you want to store; a few, full days worth, or all of your pictures.
One final aspect to consider would be the source of power. Usually there are three options; rechargeable batteries with chargers, special batteries available through the manufacturer of the camera, or an AC adapter. This option really depends upon where and when you will be using your camera.
Words to the wise be sure to read the literature on any of the products you consider buying to be certain they fit your own personal needs.
Digital cameras can be used by anyone but they are automatic just point and shoot. If you moved the camera the picture can be deleted at no cost. I know little children always want to take pictures and a digital camera is great for them. They come in a great range of sizes and prices.
