Want to make money with a web site but don't know your options for getting one?  Read about them here.

Let's say you've decided to make money on the Net with a web site.  But if you're just starting from the ground up and have never done this before, how do you get a web site?

The absolute bottom line is that a web site is a collection of code that tells a browser what to display on the screen.  It can be written in any number of languages that a server or browser can understand, such as HTML, JavaScript, PHP, or others.  This code is then interpreted by the browser and displayed as the collection of colors, text, and pictures we all know as a web site.

I've programmed a couple of web sites from scratch, since I found HTML easy and didn't have a problem with the Notepad/Internet Explorer approach.  However, this isn't necessary for you if you can't or don't want to take the time.  To get a web site, you can also:

  • Buy a template:  They can be a simple, bare bones template if you have web site programming knowledge and can modify them.  Or, you can go to a template sales site like Template Monster and buy a page or full web site that can be modified with a program like DreamWeaver.
  • Get a program to make them more quickly:  There are three web site editors I can name off the top of my head for this:  XSitePro, DreamWeaver, and FrontPage.  They are a good way to make and then manage multiple websites, but tend to be a bit pricey.  They are a good investment only if you intend to make multiple mini-sites or otherwise generate a sizeable web presence, as they can make your life a lot easier.
  • Have someone make it for you:  This can get expensive, but if you really don't like your other options, you can just have a company or programmer build you one.  This will get you a professionally built web site, but it could cost you a bit.
  • Buy an existing business site:  Yes, you can do this, but if they're already successful businesses, this could run you five figures or more.  Some people even use this as a business theory.  They build successfulComputer Technology Articles, traffic-heavy sites and then sell them for a tidy profit.

There's no lack of options if you want your own web site.  You just choose the one that matches your budget and specific requirements.
