There's an overlooked area of furthering your website's success.
Your friend's websites.
Think about it. In your circle of friends...your best buds, your old acquaintances, people you knew in college, high-school chums, buddies at church, moon-lighting netrepreneurs at your work....
Think of all the people around you that you know have websites. In fact, start making a list. You would shock yourself after making this list, because you'll see you know TONS of people with semi-successful websites.
How many of them actually still work on these sites? Some of them have likely lost interest in them and wouldn't mind handing them over to you!
Now pull up these sites, one by one. How many of them actually have a Google PageRank? You'd be shocked.
I have one friend that inherited a site, built it up, then kind of lost interest in it. IT HAD A PR OF 7!!
I asked him if I could buy it, but he didn't go for that. But he did allow me to put my Adsense code on his 3000+ pages.
I've also put links back to my site from a few of my friend's pages. Think of what the PR7 does for me.
There are many other opportunities out there that you might be missing out on. I have plenty of other friends with good PR sites yet who know nothing of search engine optimization (SEO). Those multiple one-way linkbacks work wonders.
Keep your eyes open for opportunities in your own backyard.
